Mary Jane Hallgren (nee- Eiden), age 86, of Lorain, died early Sunday morning, September 19, 2004, in New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain.
Born on December 16, 1917 in Lorain, Mrs. Hallgren was a lifelong resident of Lorain. She was a graduate of the Lorain High School and was a graduate of Kent State University, receiving a degree in elementary education. Before her marriage to her late husband- Harold Hallgren, she taught elementary school here in Lorain for a number of years. After her marriage and raising of her children, she went back to teaching school (3rd and 4th grades) here in Lorain at St. Joseph Parochial School for 13 years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and was a member of the Mothers Club and the Ladies Guild of the church. She was also a member of the L.C.B.A. in Lorain. She enjoyed reading mysteries and novels, gardening, walking and especially loved the time she spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her son- Robert F. Hallgren of Lorain; her 2 daughters- Judith Hallgren Crowley of South Deerfield, Massachusetts and Penny Nimon of Lorain; 3 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; 1 brother- Jerry Eiden of Pawleys Island, South Carolina; 1 sister- Virginia Hessberger of Elyria; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband- Harold E. Hallgren of 58 years; her parents- Frank Eiden and Nellie (nee-Kirchner) Eiden; and 3 brothers- Richard Eiden, and twins- James and John Eiden.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 21, 2004 from 6 to 8 p.m., in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain, where funeral services will be held in the funeral home, on Wednesday, at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
