Mary L. "Madear" Howard (nee Reed), 92, of Lorain, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 5, 2011 at Lake Pointe Health Center, Lorain, following a lengthy illness.
She was born Sept. 28, 1918 in Lounsboro, AL; coming to Lorain in the late 1930's.
Madear worked at National Tube, Lorain, during 1950's.
She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, Lorain, and attended Sacred Heart Chapel. Madear enjoyed BINGO, and was considered a great cook. She also loved her family.
Surviving are her grandsons, Kenneth McCall, LaVon McCall Jr., Dax McCall and Vance McCall all of Lorain; granddaughters, Doreen Newton of Lorain, Valerie McCall of Charleston, S.C., Margo McCall, and Kellie McCall all of Cleveland; Evonne McCall and Marcia McCall of California; 33 great grandchildren and 9 great great-grandchildren; and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tilton; parents, Robert Sr. and Sallie (nee Rush) Reed; daughter, Annie McCall in 1995; son in law, LaVon McCall Sr.; and a granddaughter, Veda McCall in 1991.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5:00 - 7:00 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain, where funeral services will be Wed. at 11:00 am. Rev. Tony DeGracia, Deacon of Sacred Heart Chapel, and Rev, John R. Jackson, pastor of Friendship Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
