Mary "Maria" Segarra

Mary Segarra, 83 of Lorain, passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at her residence while under the care of Cleveland Clinic Hospice following a lengthy illness.
Born Feb. 12, 1930 in Lares, Puerto Rico, she came to Lorain in 1951.
Mary worked as a sales clerk for Kmart in Lorain for 9 years. Prior to that, she worked as a seamstress for Joseph and Feiss in Lorain for 10 years.
Mary was an active and devoted member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain, where she was a member of the Crusillo Movement and Legion of Mary. She also served on the funeral committee at the church for many years, helping countless families at their time of loss prepare for the Mass of Christian Burial.
Mary was a very outgoing person, and loved cooking, music and dancing.
Surviving is her loving husband of 62 years, Antonio "Tony" Segarra; daughters, Miriam Segarra of Lorain, and Judy (Martin Smolinsky) Rosso of Nolanville, Texas; a grandson, Anthony (Digxie) Rosso of Lorain; a brother, Joe Gonzalez of Lorain; and sisters, Mina Molina, Catine Diaz, Delia Rivera all of Youngstown, and Virginia Rodriguez of Lorain.
She was preceded in death by her parents Severiano and Carmen (nee Velez) Gonzalez; a brother, Lilo Gonzalez; and sisters, Martina Cardona and Carmen Pagan.
The Segarra family will receive friends on Sunday from 4:00 - 8:00 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain. The family will also receive friends on Monday from 9:00 am until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Ave., Lorain. Rev. William Thaden, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
