Mary A. Shagovac, (nee Hamilton), age 78, of Amherst, died Friday, March 11, 2011 at her residence following a lengthy illness.
She was born March 4, 1933 in Baltimore, Md., to the late Hugh and Catherine (nee Croughin) Hamilton. Mary moved to North Ridgeville in 1943 and graduated from North Ridgeville High School. She lived in Lorain before settling in Amherst in 1976.
Mary was successful real estate agent in Lorain County for over 30 years, having sold 10 times more homes a year than the average realtor. Sixty percent of her sales came from referrals and repeat business. Her motto was "I don't list homes, I sell them". Mary received recognition as Rookie of the Year in 1977. She was a member of the Dozen 5% of the Top Realtors in the United States, and was acknowledged as being Top Mega Million Dollar Salesperson for many years. Mary was also a member of the Ohio Association of Realtors President Sales Club from 1982 thru 2001. She worked for Home Mark Realty, Realty One, then for Russell Real Estate Services, retiring in 2010.
Mary was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Amherst, and enjoyed spending time with her family.
Surviving is her husband of 45 years, Michael Richard; sons, Richard M. (Allison) of Avon Lake, and Hugh P. (Jennifer) of Amherst; grandchildren, Cody, Skylar, William, Michael and Emily; a brother, Tom of Lebanon, Tenn.; and many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by her sister, Catherine Croughin.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where funeral services will be Wednesday at 9:15 am followed by mass at 10:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 175 Saint Joseph Dr., Amherst. Rev. Fr. Lawrence N. Martello, pastor will officiate. Graveside services will be Friday at 11:00 am in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
