Mary A. Simko, (neeVancs), age 86, of Lorain, died on Saturday, July 29, 2006 at Autumn Aegis Retirement Center, Lorain, following a breif illness.
She was born on January 13, 1920 in Lorain, where she has been a lifelong resident.
She was employed in the cafeteria dept. of St. Joseph Hospital, Lorain for 16 years, retiring in 1985. Prior to this Mary worked as a machine operator at US Steel for 14 years.
She was a member of St. Basil Byzantine Catholic Church, where she was a member of the altar society and also where she made communion bread for church every Sunday. Mary was also a member of the ARCA, (American Romanian Catholic Association), and a member of the Patria Romania Si Bihoreana.
She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, traveling and crossword puzzles.
She is survived by her daughter: Rosanne Winbigler and son-in-law, David, of Huron, brothers: George, John, and Steve Vancs, all of Lorain, Emil Vancs, of Sheffield Village, and Trian Vancs of Newark, OH, sisters: Ann Klanchar, of Lorain and Valaria Slack of Amherst.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Kenneth in 1978, brothers: Ted, Joseph and Tino and sisters: Kay Cucui and Regina Vancs and parents: Theodore and Amalia (nee Fedor) Vancs.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 1, 2006, from 4-8 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, with a Saracusta at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held the following morning at 10:00 a.m., also in the funeral home. The Rev. Fr. Andre Matthews will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
