Maryann J. Faulk-Covault (nee Mattey), age84, of Lorain, died on Tuesday, August 12, 2008, at Community Health Partners HSC - West, Lorain.
She was born on November 12, 1923, in Star Junction, PA, moving to Lorain in 1930. She was a 1943A graduate of Lorain High School. She is a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and former member of St. Jude in Elyria. Maryann worked for the Lorain Public Schools as an aide. She had also worked at Ted Jacobs as a sales associate and at JC Penny's at Midway Mall when it first opened. She was a member of the "24th Street Gang" and was also on the Reunion Committee for the 1943A Class of Lorain High.
Maryann's life was music and singing. She had studied voice with the Mildred Claraboltey Studio in the Old Arcade also traveling to take lessons with Helen Opalenik, of Lorain. Maryann had went by the name "Lorraine Williams," singing at both the Bronze and Hawaiian Rooms in Hotel Cleveland, at the age of 17. She also sang with the Vic Stewart Orchestra and the George Sterney Orchestra. She appeared at the Statler and sang duets with Glenn Sterling, who later appeared with Skitch Henderson on the Johnny Carson Show.
Besides music, she enjoyed traveling and going to sporting events with her husband and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Charles, her son, Dennis Payne, of Amherst, daughters; Gail (George) Ksenich, of Amherst, Melanie (Brian) Kines, of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Nancy Jorgensen, of Oberlin, step-daughter, Beverly Faulk, of Panama City, FL, and her 8 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her second husband, James A. Faulk, in 1987, and her parents; John and Anna (nee Volansky) Mattey.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 15, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm, in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where services will be held the following morning at 9:15 am. A funeral Mass will follow at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 2428 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Fr. David Novak, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, Ohio, 44055, to assist the family with funeral expenses.
