Matthew A. Garcia

Matthew A. Garcia, a resident of Lorain, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly and entered eternal life, on September 22, 2022, at the age of 43.

Matthew was born on January 15, 1979, in Lorain, Ohio. He worked in the general construction industry for most of his life.  He was a member of Journey Church- Avon Campus and attended House of Praise as well.

His hobbies and interests included fishing, gardening, cooking, bowling, playing darts, reading and spending time with his family and friends. On any given day, Matthew could be found with his fishing pole at his favorite fishing spots on 14^th Street or the pier in Lorain.

He is survived by his fiancé, Tonya Gatlin of Lorain; children Joshua Garcia, Caydon Nahm, and Mattie Bates; mother Brenda Garcia (nee Franklin); sisters Deborah Harris (Rich), Christine Folley (Larry), Jennifer Hoban (Jason), and 10 nieces and nephews.

Matthew was preceded in death by his father Augustine “Gus” Garcia Jr, maternal grandparents Betty and Garland Franklin and paternal grandparents Helen and Augustine Garcia.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 2^nd from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Dovin Funeral & Cremation Specialists, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain.  Visitation will also be held on Monday, October 3^rd at 8:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain.  Rev. William Thaden will officiate.  Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
