Matthew Yagielo, age 84, of Lorain, died on Thursday, October 28, 2004 at Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center West, following a lengthy illness.
He was born on April 25, 1920 in Poland, he came to Lorain in 1940.
He was employed as a machinist at Betcher Industries in Birmingham for 10 years. Prior to this he was employed at Thew Shovel and American Shipbuilding, Lorain.
He was a member of Nativity BVM Catholic Church.
He was an avid golfer and was well known for his steak frys after his golf outings in the Lorain County area.
Matthew was survived by his wife of 61 years: Betty (nee Telzerow), sons: Steve Yagielo, of Wellington, and Jim Yagielo of North Ridgeville, daughters: Gloria Zust, of Vermilion and Barbara Szczepanowski, of Clemens, North Carolina, 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild and brother: John of Poland, sister: Cecelia Kielar of Orlando, Florida, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Nick and Amelia Yagielo and brothers; Ted and Steve.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 5-8 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where services will be held on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a 10:00 a.m. mass at Nativity BVM Catholic Church, Lorain.
