Melissa D. Jones

Melissa D. Jones (nee Smith), age 52, of Lorain, passed away Monday, July 11, 2022, at Mercy New Life Hospice in Lorain following a lengthy illness.

Born April 16, 1970, in Amherst, she lived in Lorain the majority of her life.  Melissa graduated from Lorain High School in 1988 and attended Lorain County Community College.

Melissa enjoyed crafts, painting knick-knacks and spending time with her grandchildren.  She was a huge animal lover and a very good cook.

Surviving is her son, Eric Harper of Lorain; daughter, Tasha Harper of Lorain; three grandchildren; father, Densil (Irene) Smith of Lorain; mother, Songa Zakowski of Lorain; brothers, Michael (Barbie) Smith and Anthony Zakowski both of Lorain, Brian (Rebecca) Smith and Cody Zakowski both of Summerville, SC; sisters, Valerie Davidson of North Ridgeville, Tamara (Josh) Heidrich of Lorain and Rebecca Zakowski of Amherst; and her former fiancé, William Edward of Lorain.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents; step-father, William “Worm” Zakowski; and her niece, Hope Star Smith.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 21, 2022 from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral and Cremation Specialist, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain.
