Michael T. Pignitella, age 92, of Lorain, died Wednesday, January 26, 2005 at Golden Acres Lorain County Home, Amherst, following a lengthy illness.
Born September 18, 1912 in Lorain, he has lived here his entire life. In the late 1930's, he played for the former Dreamland Theater softball team.
He worked at Lorain Works US Steel as a steel pourer for 41 years retiring in 1975.
He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Lorain, and enjoyed bowling and golfing, reading mysteries and westerns, watching the Cleveland Indians baseball team, and traveling all over the United States.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Minerva M. (nee Moran), a son, Donald M. Pignitella of South Amherst, 3 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Anthony Pignitella and Leonarda Pignitella (nee DelGrasso), sisters; Sue DeLeonardis, Edith Burrelli.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 2-4 and 6 - 8 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home followed by mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1305 East Erie Ave., Lorain. Rev. Fr. Joseph West, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
