Michael Richard Shagovac, 87, of Amherst, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at Cleveland Clinic, Avon, following a short illness.
He was born October 20, 1929 in Lorain to the late Andrew and Elizabeth (nee Carr) Shagovac. He graduated from Lorain High School in 1948 and attended Bowling Green State University. Michael moved to Amherst in 1976 where he has lived since.
Michael worked 38 years in banking, having served as assistant vice president and branch manager at the main branch for the former Central Trust Company in Lorain, retiring in 1989
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Parish, Amherst, and enjoyed word searches, watching television, traveling the world and spending time with his family.
Surviving are his sons, Richard M. (Allison) of Avon Lake and Hugh P. (Jennifer) of Amherst; grandchildren, Cody, Skylar, William, Alexander, Michael and Emily.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Mary A. (nee Hamilton) Shagovac in 2011; brothers, George, Pete, Joseph and John; and sisters, Elizabeth Reardon, Mary Pollas, Ann Fundak and Rose Pullins.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 27th from 4-8 pm in the Dovin Funeral and Cremation Specialists, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain where funeral services will be Saturday at 9:15 am followed by mass at 10:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Parish, 175 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst. Rev. Timothy O'Conner, pastor will officiate. Graveside services will be Thursday, February 2nd at 1:00 pm in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Disabled American Veterans Louis Pal Proy Chapter 20, 1319 W. Erie Avenue, Lorain, Ohio, 44052.
