Michael Yavornitzky, age 91, of Lorain, died on January 10, 2008, at Autumn Aegis Nursing Home, while under the care of New Life Hospice, following an extended illness.
He was born on August 20, 1916 in Cleveland, Ohio, moving to Lorain in 1918, where he has resided since. He was a 1934 graduate of Lorain High School. After graduation, Michael had worked for Central Bakery. He was then employed at US Steel as an engineer for the Lake Terminal Railroad, for over 45 years, retiring in 1982.
Michael was a member of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church.
He enjoyed watching Ohio State Football, Cleveland Indians Baseball, and Cleveland Browns Football.
He is survived by his sons; Michael J., of Columbus and Russell A., of Madison, Ohio, a granddaughter, Alexis Schoppe, of Dallas, TX, a brother, Joseph, of Lorain, sisters; Anne Yavornitzky, of Middleburg Heights and Eva Jankowski, of Avon.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Nathalie Rose (nee Strouse), in 1991, parents; Harry, in 1974, and Mary (nee Kuczma) Yavornitzky in 1976, brothers; John, in 1979, Andrew, during WW II, William, in 2002, and Harry, Jr., in 1999, and a sister, Olga Yavornitzky, in 2007.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 13, from 2 - 6 pm, in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Monday at 11:30 am, in the funeral home and at 12:00 noon at St. George Serbian Orthodox Church, 2210 E. 33rd Street, Lorain, Ohio. Rev. Milorad Orlich, pastor will officiate. Burial will be held in Elmwood Cemetery.
