Mildred Amelia (Zvara) Mecera, age 91, died peacefully in Pittsburgh Saturday, November 19, 2016 in her personal style of no fuss or bother. She was the last surviving child of John and Mary Zvara. She spent most of her life in Lorain, where she was born and raised her family. She spent her last remaining years living with her children in Columbus, Ohio, and then in Pittsburgh. Mildred truly enjoyed traveling, taking her children and other family members on trips throughout the Midwest. She enjoyed reminiscing about a trip to New York City when she was a young adult, and to the desert with her sisters. She loved her pet dogs and feeding the birds and squirrels. She was a strong woman, and was always willing to offer aid and support when there was a need. She was a long-standing member of Ss. Peter and Paul Lutheran Church in Sheffield Township. During World War II she was employed by US Steel, then was appliance department manager at K Mart, and retired from the Lorain School System where she was a custodian. She was preceded in death by former husband Gusty Mecera, and siblings Steve Zvara, Mary Milicic, Gisella Valko, Andrew Zvara, Pauline Spooner, Raymond Zvara, Julie Liptack, Judy Gerlach, Ruth Stanchak , Lillian Holmes, and Daniel Zvara. Left to honor Mildred are her children: Mary Ellen (Brian) Lukach, and Gust (Ann Marie) Mecera; grandchildren: Gregory Hardwick, Juliana (Mark) Federoff, and Justina (Philip) Ross; and great grandchildren: Courtney Hardwick, and John Federoff.
Calling hours will be held at Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave, Lorain, OH 44055 on Tuesday, November 22 from 5-7 pm. A Lutheran funeral service led by Reverend Edgar Anthony will be held at the Dovin Funeral Home Wednesday, November 23 at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Lorain, Ohio.
