Milton F. Sadowski, 93 of Lorain, died Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at Community Health Partners, Lorain, following a short illness.
Born Dec. 22, 1916 in West Rutland, Vermont, he came to Lorain in 1922. He graduated from Lorain High School in 1934, and then served in the US Army during World War II.
Milton worked as an accountant for Lorain Works US Steel in the No. 3 Seamless Mill, retiring in 1980 after 37 years of service.
He was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Lorain, where he served under 6 different pastors as an usher for 35 years. He was a member of the Holy Name Society, having served as president, and was awarded Holy Name Man of the Year in 1984. He also had served as chairman for Catholic Charities and was involved with the Cursillo Movement.
Milton enjoyed growing vegetables and roses, traveling and playing cards.
Surviving is his wife of 70 years, Bernice (nee Olejko); his children, Gerald (Monika) of Surprise, AZ, Janice (Robert) Buckholtz of Englewood, OH, Norman (Tammy) of Mantua, OH, Joseph (Kathie) of Crawfordsville, IN, and John (Rosemary) of Lorain; 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; a brother, Eugene of Amherst; and a sister Eleanor Saltis of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by his parents Florian and Katherine (nee Blazejowski) Sadowski; a brother, Alphonse; and sisters, Adeline Prosowski, Jeannette Bereznak, and Bernice Bach.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 5:00 to 9:00 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where the Holy Name Society will conduct a rosary at 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be Saturday at 9:30 am in the funeral home followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am. at Nativity BVM Catholic Church, 418 W. 15th Street, Lorain where Rev. Fr. Robert Glepko, pastor, assisted by Deacon Robert Dybo, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Sadowski family plot at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 451 combined with the American Legion Post 30 will conduct full military honors.
