Monserrate "Monse" Rivera, (nee Martinez), age 81, of Lorain, went home to be with the Lord, on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at her residence, while under the care of her loving husband, Ramon and New Life Hospice, following a lengthy illness.
She was born on September 8, 1928 in Penuela, Puerto Rico, living in this area since 1948.
She was in fellowship at Local Del Evangelio and was very active in the church/assembly. Being a selfless woman, her service to the Lord was hospitality, which was her passion.
Monse enjoyed sewing, needlework, stitching, cooking and baking. She took great pride in her family, including her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Ramon R. Rivera, Sr., daughter, Zulma Rivera, of West Palm Beach, Florida, sons; Ramon R. Rivera, Jr., and Rafael Diaz, both of Lorain, 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and her twin sister, Natividad Cuevas, of Sheffield Village.
Monse was preceded in death by her parents: Alfonso and Catalina (nee Feliciano) Martinez.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 28, 2010 from 6-8 p.m., with an evening service at 7:00 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:00 a.m., also in the funeral home, followed by burial in Elmwood Cemetery.
