Nestor Fernandez, age 90, of Elyria Twp., died on Friday, September 09, 2005 at Harborside Health Care Center, Westlake, following a lengthy illness.
He was born June 9, 1915 in Lares, Puerto Rico, having lived in Elyria for the past 6 years.
He served in the United States Army during World War II, having received the American and Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Medals, the World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and 4 Overseas Service Bars.
While living in Puerto Rico, Nestor was employed as a security guard and a taxi driver.
Nestor enjoyed music, boxing and baseball.
He is survived by his son: Nestor Fernandez, Jr. of Elyria, 3 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, brother: Juan Torres, of Lorain, sisters: Judith Fernandez, Sonia Fernandez and Emelia Fernandez, all of Lares, Puerto Rico.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Raphael and Emilia (nee Torres) Fernandez, brothers: Rafael, Ramon, Ajenol "Attla", Anacleto, and Fernando, sister: Delia Molina and Thelma Ramon.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 11, 2005 from 6-8 p.m in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. , Mr. Tony DeGracia, deacon of Sacred Heart Chapel, will officiate. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
