Nick Andrijowycz, age 89, of Lorain, died on Saturday, April 8, 2006 at The New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, after a long illness.
He was born on December 18, 1916 in Nadvirna, Ukraine. After moving to Lorain, he was employed at Freuhauf Trailer Company and then worked for American Ship Building as a Fairer-Up, retiring from there in 1981.
Nick was a member of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, where he had dedicated a lot of his time. He had served and assisted at masses for many years, and after retiring was the deacon for awhile. He had also assisted with perohy sales for the church as well.
Nick enjoyed gardening, fruit growing, home repair and maintenance, entertaining guests and family, and playing with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his 3 sons; George, of Lorain, Don, of Nevada, and John, of Strongsville, his 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Maria (nee Noskiw) in 2004, his parents; Mychaylo and Kateryna (nee Turansky) Andrijowycz, along with his 4 brothers and 2 sisters.
The family will receive friends on Monday, April10, 2006 from 3-7 p.m., at the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where a panahida service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be on Tuesday, April 11 at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by Divine Liturgy at 10:00 at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, E. 31st Street and Charleston Ave., Lorain. The Rev. Fr. Steven M. Paliwoda, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary cemetery, Lorain.
