Nicolas "Jaco" Ruiz, 70, of Lorain died Tuesday, February 01, 2005 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain following a brief illness.
Born Sept. 3, 1934 in Caguas, Puerto Rico, he lived in Chicago, Illinois for 5 years before coming to Lorain in 1972.
He served in the US Army for 3 years.
He worked at the Ford Motor Co. Lorain Assembly Plant as an assembler for 25 years retiring in 1996. Following his retirement he worked for Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain, as the head of maintenance for 8 years.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain, where he was active in the Cursillo and Santo Nombre. He was also a member of the United Autoworkers Union Local 425.
He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and raising pigeons.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Susana (nee Ojeda), his sons; Orlando of Vermilion, Jorge of Amherst, Carlos of Suwanee, GA, Luis and Antonio of Columbus, Ohio, daughters; Wanda Ruiz-Rollins of Pataskala, Ohio, and Migdalee Ruiz-Brewer of Lorain, 12 grandchildren, a sister, Juanita Vega of Caguas, Puerto Rico.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose Ruiz and Romualda Ruiz (nee Vega), and a brother, Clotildo Ruiz, in 1988.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be Friday at 8:15 a.m. followed by mass at 9:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Ave., Lorain. Rev. Fr. William Thaden, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
VFW Post #451 and the American Legion Post #30 will conduct full military honors.
