Nilda Medina (nee Alvarez), age 80, of Lorain, died on Thursday, October 4, 2007, at University Hospital, Cleveland, after a lengthy illness due to numerous medical complications.
She was born on May 28, 1927 in Barceloneta, Puerto Rico, and had moved to Lorain in 1946. She was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel.
Nilda was the first and only woman to be on the committees that raised funds to build, both the Puerto Rican Home and Sacred Heart Chapel. She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading and gardening, especially her flowers and vegetables. Nilda also enjoyed her Catholic faith and religion.
She is survived by her sons; Eugene Medina, Julio Medina, Jr., Jason Julio Medina, and Jeremy Gene Medina, all of Lorain, a daughter, Yolanda Nagy, of Lorain, 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, a brother, Eddie Alvarez, of Lorain, and a sister, Margarita Alvarez, of Barceloneta, Puerto Rico.
She was preceded in death by her ex-husband, Julio Medina (Lule), her parents; Evaristo and Aleja (nee Pena) Alvarez, brothers; Evaristo Alvarez and Harry Alvarez, and 2 sisters; Dora Pastrana and Eva Vazquez.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 6, 2007 from 10:00 am until the time of mass at 12:00 pm, at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain, Ohio 44055. The Rev. Fr. William Thaden, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
