Olga Levak, (nee Mihalsky), 90, passed away on Sunday, May 16, 2010 after a lengthy illness.
A lifelong resident of the area, Olga was a member of Ss Peter and Paul Orthodox Church in Lorain and graduated with the 1936B class of Lorain High School. After graduation, she worked as a bookkeeper and secretary at Ohio Furniture and M.J. Dorsin Co. During WWII, Olga was an inspector of airplane parts for Western Automatic and later worked as a time clerk at US Steel. Following the war, Olga devoted her life to her family and to charitable causes.
Olga was an active volunteer with her church as a one-time member of the choir, the St. Mary's Altar Sisterhood, the Federated Russian Orthodox Clubs, the Russian Orthodox Catholic Women's Mutual Aid Society, and the National Slovak Society.
Additionally, Olga was a member of the US Steel Local Union #1104, 101st Airborne Association, the Queen City Chapter #66 of Eastern Star, and the Padua Travel Club.
Her volunteering also included work with the Golden Age Pensioners Club, Keenagers, Lorain Community Senior Center, AARP, R.S.V.P. and was a charter member of Mature Outlook.
Olga also had enjoyed walking, arts and crafts, crocheting, knitting and embroidery.
Olga is predeceased by her husband of 45 years, in 1988, Martin, her parents, Leonty and Barbara Mihalsky; her brothers, Adam, Andrew, John, Peter and Daniel, her sisters, Amelia Ontal, Mary Gochnour, and Julia Swah; and her daughter-in-law, Rosemary J. Levak.
She is survived by her children, John Levak of Lorain, Barbara Levak, of Columbus and Patricia Levak of Columbus; her grandchildren, Dr. Steven Levak of Cleveland and Marlee (Dan) Franzen, of Arlington, VA, her great grandchildren, Joe and Ellen Olga Franzen, her brothers, Walter Mihalsky of Lorain and Raymond Mihalsky of Westerville, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Viewing hours will be from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. with Parastas service at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 20th, 2010 at the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, Ohio. Viewing will also be from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at 10:00 a.m. at Ss Peter & Paul Orthodox Church, 2238 E. 32nd Street, Lorain. The Very Rev. Archpriest Basil Stoyka, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
