Olga Stanchak (nee Smalcer), 74 of Elyria, died Friday, August 20, 2010 at her residence following a sudden illness.
Born April 22, 1936 in Czechoslovakia, she came from Germany to the US in 1949.
She was a former member of St. John Ukrainian Byzantine Catholic Church, Lorain, and had attended Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Cleveland. Olga was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking.
She is survived by her daughter, Victoria (Steve) Lester of Elyria; grandchildren, Rachel, Matt, Nina, Kegan, and Shay; a brother, Joe Smalcer of Broadview Heights; and a sister, Helen Manzo of Brunswick.
She was preceded in death by her son, Steve Stanchak Jr. in 2000; her companion of 25 years, Bob Pavlicek; parents, Julius and Veronica (nee Balog) Smalcer; brothers, Julius, John, Rudy, and Albert and sisters, Veronica and Julie.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 4:00 - 7:00 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where at 6:30 pm a parastas service will be conducted by Rev. Canon Andrew Hanowsky, pastor of Ss. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Byzantine Catholic Church, Cleveland. Funeral committal will be private. To send online condolences go to
