Pablo C. Hernandez, 88 of Lorain, passed away Monday, April 21, 2014 at New Life Hospice Residential Center, Lorain following a brief illness.
Born January 10, 1926 in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, he came to Lorain in the early 1950's.
Pablo worked at Lorain Works US Steel for 20 year, retiring in 1988. Prior to that, he worked at Hoag's Greenhouse in Elyria where he received his boilermaker's license.
He was a member of the United Steel Workers Union Local 1104 and enjoyed gardening, painting houses and helping others.
Surviving is son, Fred Hernandez of Lorain; daughters, Mirta (John) Remali of Sheffield Village and Edith (Bill Poll) of Queens, NY; 5 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; sisters, Maria Hernandez of Brooklyn, NY, Sarah Hernandez and Sophia Hernandez both of Puerto Rico; and his companion of 14 years, Norma Medina and her children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Juana (nee Chevere) Hernandez; and sisters, Andrea, Eladia and Constance
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Friday at 10:00 am in the funeral home. Rev. Ymmer Cobos, associate pastor of House of Praise International will officiate. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
