Patricia A. Avalos

Patricia Ann “Pat” Avalos (nee Gray), age 87 of Lorain, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2024, at Ames Family Hospice in Westlake, Ohio.

Born January 30, 1937, in Washington, Pennsylvania, to John and Mary (nee Work) Gray, Patricia moved to Lorain in 1951, where she graduated from Lorain High School in 1954.  For 14 years she worked as a sales clerk for JC Penney, retiring in 1979.  She was a member of Sonshine Baptist Church where she served as an English instructor in the church’s literacy program.  She also served as Sunday School Teacher for 17 years as well as the director of the Women’s Fellowship program.

She enjoyed working for the church as well as traveling, crotchet, and reading Christian literature.

Surviving are her children, Frank (Tracy) Avalos, Sue (Jack) Steffen, Brenda (Bill) Askew and Carol Avalos; many grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as a sister, Linda (David) Karasevic.

She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Frank Avalos; both of her parents as well as her sister, Shirley Cornette.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 9 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Dovin Funeral & Cremation Specialists, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain.  Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday, April 10 at 11:00 a.m.  Burial will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park.
