Pedro "Pete" Cortes, age 96, of Lorain, passed away on Monday, June 21, 2010, at his home, while under the care of Grace Hospice.
He was born on August 28, 1913, in Manati, Puerto Rico. He lived in Puerto Rico until his later years, then moved to New York, until finally moving to Lorain in 1992.
Pedro owned his own grocery store in New York, for 10 years. He also worked as a taxi driver. He is a member of Sacred Heart Chapel.
He enjoyed visiting with his family, watching the news, and playing dominoes.
Pedro is survived by his son, Hector Cortes, of Bayamon, Puerto Rico, his daughter, Millie (Flechita)Santiago, of Lorain, 5 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Francisca (nee Perez), in 1992, a grandson, Adam Badillo, in 1995, his parents; Francisco and Regina (nee Ginez) Cortes, and his 12 brothers and sisters.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 24, from 6-9 pm, in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Friends will also be received on Friday, from 8:30 am until the time of Mass, at 9:30, at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. The Rev. Fr. William Thaden, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
