Pete A. Placidi, age 86, of Lorain, died on Tuesday, November 30, 2004 at Amherst Manor Nursing Home, following a lengthy illness.
He was born on December 13, 1917 in Big Stick, West Virginia. He was a 1935 graduate of Mark Twain High School. Pete also was a 1950 graduate of West Virginia University, receiving his bachelor of science degree in mining engineering.
During World War II he served in the United States Army as an Aviation Cadet, from 1943-1945.
Pete was employed as a field engineer at US Steel, Lorain Works from 1953-1972. He then worked as an assembler for 10 years at Ford Motor Company, Lorain plant.
He was very active in the local Democratic Party prior to his retirement. He enjoyed traveling in the United States and abroad as well as bowling, baseball and fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years: Cathryn, (nee Turner) 3 daughters: Cynthia Rohrs, of Sylvania, OH, Donna Placidi, of Lorain, Kathleen Placidi dEntremont, of Lynchburg, VA, 1 grandson: Christopher Rohrs, and brothers: Lado Placidi, of Sophia, WVA, Charlie Placidi of Taylor, MI and sister: Mary Placidi of Beckley, WVA.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Placido and Rosina (nee Vignozzi) Placidi, 2 brothers: Geno Placidi and Vergil Placid and 2 sisters: Edith and Lena Placidi.
The family will receive friends on Friday, December 3, 2004 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain where funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Rev.
