Peter Mindek, age 94, of Avon, died on Sunday, July 12, 2009 at Avon Oaks Nursing Home, following a lengthy illness.
He was born on July 10, 1915 in Bridgeport, CT, moving to Cleveland in 1927. From Cleveland, he moved to Avon Lake in 1977, before finally moving to Lorain in 1987.
He graduated high school in Parma. He was employed at Addressagraph Multigraph for 32 years, retiring from there in 1974. He then worked at Brookside High School as a custodian for 5 years, before retiring from there in 1980.
He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. Peter enjoyed gardening, sports and golfing.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Florence (nee Wisner), daughter, Marlene Joyner, of Lorain, son-in-law, Jack Benton, of Lorain, Grandchildren; Suzette Joyner, of Cleveland, Michael (Audrey) Joyner, of Bayfield, WI, Brian (Monica) Joyner, of Olivebridge, NY, Matthew (Rebecca) Benton, of Traverse City, MI, Christopher Benton, of Cleveland, and Andrew (Moira) Benton , of Elyria, 5 great grandchildren, and his brothers; Michael and Robert (Susan) Mindek.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Marcia Benton, in 2005, infant son, Dennis, parents, Nicholas and Anna Mindek, sisters; Mary Mindek and Anna (Alphonse) Dlugokecki, and a brother, Nicholas, Jr. (Viola) Mindek.
The family will receive friends for graveside services, on Wednesday, July 15, at 2:30 pm, at St. Joseph Cemetery, Avon. The Rev. Fr. Joseph West, Pastor of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, will officiate. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Anthony at a later date. The Dovin Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
