Pompello “Quezada” Tapia, age 83, of Lorain, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Sunday, September 10, 2023.
Born November 25, 1939, in Yabonico, Las Matas de Farfán, Dominican Republic, he immigrated to the United States in the early 1960s. Pompello lived in Queens, New York, for 30 years, where he worked in maintenance at apartment buildings. In 1986, he moved to Lorain.
While living in the Dominican Republic, Pompello served in the military.
He enjoyed auto mechanics, yard work, gardening, watching boxing, and baseball. Pompello was an active House of Praise International Church member in Lorain. For close to 10 years, he ministered to inmates at the Grafton Correctional Institution.
Surviving are his children, Cynthia Greene of Avon Lake, Lillian Tapia of Lorain, Nelson Tapia and Richard Tapia of Pennsylvania, and Thelma Hernandez of New Jersey; 16 grandchildren; and several siblings.
He was preceded in death by his parents Armehilio and Aurora (nee Tapia) Sanchez; and several brothers and sisters.
Visitation will take place at Dovin Funeral and Cremation Specialists, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, on Sunday starting at 3:00 p.m. A memorial service will follow the visitation at 4:00 p.m. with minister Manny Soto from House of Praise International Church officiating.
