Rachel W. Ossman (nee Auflick), age 93, of Elyria, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 28, 2010, at Kingston of Vermilion.
She was born on June 10, 1917 in Nelsonville, Ohio, moving to Lorain County in 1942. She was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church for over 55 years.
Rachel dedicated her life to her family and her church. She worked for many years in child Evangelism, holding classes in her home for the kids. She served as the Primary Sunday School Superintendant for several years and was a substitute teacher for the Adult Ladies "Bereans" class, which she was also the class president of as well. She was also active in the Awana Church Program, member of the Ladies Missionary Society, and the Ladies Bible Study. One of her most prided achievements though, was being named Pastor's Woman of the Year, in 1996.
She is survived by her daughters; Frankie V. (Glenn) Hall, of Vermilion, Billie J. (Carl, Sr.) Firestone, of Amherst, and Donna J. Nenzoski, of Elyria, and Chary Turner, of Texas, son, James G., of Elyria, 20 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, James W. "Ossie", in 2007, daughter, Diane Klukas, her parents; James and Cora (nee Arnold) Auflick, and her 10 brothers and sisters.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, Oct. 3, from 2-6 pm, in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain, where services will be held Mon., at 1:00 pm. The Rev. Jack Ison, Pastor of Fellowship Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
