Raquel Torres (nee Lugo), age 80, of Lorain, died on Friday, January 9, 2009 at Community Health Partners Hospital, Lorain, following a lengthy illness.
She was born on November 7, 1928 in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, moving to Lorain in May of 1977 from Manhattan after getting married.
Raquel is a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, where she was very active. She was also very active in her community and fostered children from broken homes.
She enjoyed playing bingo, loved animals, traveling, even though she never drove a car. She had a true green thumb.
She is survived by her husband of 32 years: Primitivo, sons, Juan Cancel of Toa Alta, PR, Naaman Edwin Torres of Elyria, William Torres, of Lorain, Dennis Torres, of Lorain, Hiram Torres, of Lorain, Edgar Torres of Fayette, OH, daughter, Myrna Torres, of Sheffield Township, 14 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren. She will also be sadly missed by many close friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers and a great grandson, Corey Torres.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 from 6-8 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Funeral mass will be held on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Fr. William Thaden, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
