Raymond Krafcik

Raymond J. "Ray" Krafcik, 89, of Lorain, passed away Thursday, August 31, 2017 at Elmcroft of Lorain following a short illness.
Born January 19, 1928 in Lorain, he lived in Lorain his entire life. He graduated from Lorain High School in 1946 and then served in the US Army as a military policeman.
Ray worked at Lorain Works US Steel for 41 years, retiring as a metallurgist in 1986.
He was a member of the former Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Lorain, where he served as an usher, councilman was a member of the Holy Name Society and was honored to have received the Holy Name Man of the Year award. Ray was a member of St. Peter Parish, Lorain, the United Steel Workers Union Local 1104, the Veterans of Foreign War Post 451, and the Slovak Catholic Sokol where he had served as treasurer at one time.
Ray enjoyed bowling, swimming, golfing, woodworking and gardening.
Surviving are his children, David and Raymond M. both of Lorain, John (Faye) of Parma and Diane (Jim) Carter of Wadsworth; grandchildren, Joshua (Maria) Krafcik, Sarah (Richard) Schaffer, Jennifer Krafcik, Matthew (Ashley) Krafcik, Caitlyn (Alan) Sheppard, Nicholas Carter, Lizabeth Carter, Anastasia Krafcik, Alexander Krafcik and Aaron Krafcik; great grandchildren, Reagan, Aiden and Camden Schaffer and Wes, Ethan and Carolyne Krafcik.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Myra (nee Marinik) Krafcik in 2012; parents, John and Klementina (Krajcovic) Krafcik; brothers, Bernard and John; sisters, Mary Campos and Margaret Schon.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4:00 - 8:00 pm at the Dovin Funeral and Cremation Specialists, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:30 am followed by mass at 11:00 am at St. Peter Parish, 3655 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Gerald Keller will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. The Amvets Post 32 Honor Guard will conduct military honors.
