Raymond P. Krosky, age 78, of Lorain, died on Monday, February 16, 2009, at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain following a short illness.
He was born on July 9, 1930 in Lorain, where he has been a life-long resident. He graduated with Honors from Lorain High School class of 1949A. Ray served from 1951 thru 1955 with the United States Air Force during the Korean War having received the Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Service Medal. He was employed at BF Goodrich and Zeon for 37 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Catholic Church of St. Peter, Lorain, and a life member of AMVETS Post 22, Vermilion.
Ray enjoyed traveling, walking, gardening and sports. He was especially fond of his grandchildren, Daniel, Haley, Angela (Jim) and Steve.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Elva (nee Mazzoni); his son, Ken (Beth) of Avon; his daughter, Karen (Bob) Christmyer of Avon Lake; four grandchildren; and his sisters, Helen (Al) Vangeloff of St. Petersburg, FL, and Doris (Joe) Kerekes, of North Port, FL; brother and sister-in-laws, Jean (Karl) Kalivoda of Lorain, Arlene (Tony) Marcucci of Lorain, Joseph (Barbara) Mazzoni of Amherst, and Jerry (JoAnn) Mazzoni of Oberlin; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel in 1938 and Mary (nee Krulewski) in 1988; sisters, Julia "Jay" Sabota, Kay Kovacs and Mary Mikolanda; and his brothers, John and Mike.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where funeral services will be Friday at 9:45 am followed by Mass at 10:00 am at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 2702 Elyria Ave, Lorain. The Rev. Fr. Robert Kraig, pastor of St. John Neumann Catholic Church, Strongsville, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. Military honors will be conducted by the Vermilion Veterans Council.
