Raymond W. Massey, 87, of Lorain, died Saturday, August 4, 2007 at his residence while under the care of New Life Hospice following a lengthy illness.
He was born Sept. 1, 1919, in Lowell, Massachusetts, coming to Lorain in 1959 where has resided since.
He served as a merchant mariner in the United States Merchant Marine during World War II. Raymond worked as a painter in the maintenance department of the Ford Motor Company's Lorain Assembly Plant for over 30 years, retiring in 1980.
He was a member of St. John Roman Catholic Church, Lorain, and the United Auto Workers Union Local 425. He enjoyed watching baseball and football, was an avid Boston Red Sox fan, and followed politics very closely.
Surviving is his daughter, Doris Eva Pozega of Lorain; two granddaughters; sisters, Irene McKenzie of Maderia Beach, Florida, Yvette Smith of Lowell, Massachusetts, Doris LaPointe of Tewksbury, Massachusetts, and Cecile Boisver of Lowell, Massachusetts.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Marie Eva (nee Morin) Massey in 1989, and his parents, Arthur William Massey and Mary Alphonsine (nee Ouellette) Massey.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m., in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where funeral services will be Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. followed by mass at 9:30 a.m. at St. John Roman Catholic Church, Grove Avenue and Homewood Drive, Lorain. Rev. Thomas Smith, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridgehill Memorial Park.
