Raymond J. Paynter, Sr., age 72 of Lorain, died on Sunday, January 8, 2006 at EMH Regional Medical Center, Elyria, following a short illness.
He was born on June 13, 1933 in St. Mary's, West Virginia, moving to Lorain in the late 1940's.
He served in the United States Army Corp of Engineers and saw 3 years of active combat in the Korean War.
He was employed at Harshaw Chemical Company, Fruehauf Trailer as an electrician for 10 years and at New York Central Railroad as a brakeman for 7 years, most recently, during his retirement he worked at Burger King, Sheffield as a host/greeter.
He was a member of the Magyar United Church of Christ, Elyria.
He enjoyed woodworking and his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years: Grace (nee Farkas), son: Raymond of Lorain, daughters: Resa Paynter, of Lorain, Kathy Jackson, of Elyria, Deirdre Langer of Elyria, Connie Currier of Elyria and Susan McComas, of Lorain, 10 grandchildren and sister: Mildred Paynter of Cincinnati.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Paynter and Edna (nee Sparks) Mace, his sisters: Joan Rico and Emma Jane Torres.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 12, 2006 from 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m., Rev. Robert Kistemaker, associate pastor of House of Praise International Church, Lorain will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter #20 will conduct full military honors.
