Rev. Agustin Serrano, age 58, of Lorain, died on Thursday, February 12, 2009 at Avon Oaks Nursing Facility, following a lengthy illness.
He was born on August 30, 1950 in Humacao, Puerto Rico. He graduated from Annarocket High School in Puerto Rico. He then attended Bible College at Templo Emmanuel. He was welcomed to Lorain in 1968 by the late Rev. Pablo Reyes, who introduced him to the Salvation of Christ. Later he became an ordained minister under the sponsorship of his brother, Rev. Miguel Serrano. Together, Agustin and his brother took over the Iglesia Pentecostal Cristo Misionera, where he was Co-Pastor for almost 30 years. One of his biggest accomplishments was being the co-founder of Ministerio De Accion. He was employed at Hall's Garden Center before going to work at the Lorain Ford Assembly Plant as a laborer, retiring in 1999 with 30 years of service. After retirement he worked at Manco for a few years before fully enjoying his retirement.
He enjoyed gardening, reading, fishing and especially traveling. He always enjoyed being with his family.
Surviving is his wife of 35 years, Inez Serrano (nee Rivera), three sons, Agustin Jr., Sammy and Jimmy all of Lorain, brothers, Luis, Pablo, Julio, Cirilo, Rev. Miguel Serrano, and Felix, all of Lorain and a sister, Carmen Sanchez, of Cupey, Puerto Rico and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nazario and Francisca (nee Rivera) Serrano, both in 1979, infant daughter in 1973 and an infant son in 1974.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 15, 2009 from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. at Templo Emmanuel, 4230 Clinton Avenue, Lorain, where an evening service will be held at 6:00 pm. Services will be held on Monday morning at 10:00 a.m. in the church with the Rev. Daniel Reyes, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park.
