Richard Garza, 65, of Lorain, passed away Saturday, April 8, 2017 at MetroHealth Medical Center, Cleveland following an unexpected illness.
Born March 20, 1952 in Lorain, he lived in Lorain his entire life. Richard attended Lorain Admiral King and then served in the United States Marine Corp during the Vietnam War.
Richard retired from Lorain Metropolitan Housing in 2014 where he worked in maintenance for 13 years. He also owned and operated Garza Lawn Care.
He was a member of Upon the Rock Church, Lorain, and enjoyed working outside, listening to music and going to concerts.
Surviving is his wife of 29 years, Sherry (nee Griffith); sons, Richard Garza Jr, Dallas Rose and George Rose all of Lorain; 7 grandchildren; brothers, Edward "Lalo" Garza and Ernest Garza both of Lorain, Gilbert Garza and Elmer Garza both of Texas; and a sister, Norma Hess-Alcala of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer Garza and Rosa (nee Cantu) Hernandez; a brother, Henry Garza; and a sister Deana Ybarra.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm in the Dovin Funeral and Cremation Specialists, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where funeral services will be Saturday at 11:00 am. Rev. D.J. Murray, pastor of Upon this Rock Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. The Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter 20 will conduct military honors.
