Richard Gutierrez, age 59, of Villa Rica, Georgia, died Monday, July 3, 2006, at New Life Hospice Residential Center following a lengthy illness.
He was born March 7, 1947 in Mexico City, Mexico; he came to Lorain in 1950. In 1967 he moved to Akron, then Canal Fulton, then in 2001, he moved to Villa Rica, Georgia.
In 1965, Richard graduate of Admiral King High School, then received an associate's degree in chemistry from Lorain County Community College.
Richard worked for Bridgestone Firestone in Akron, retiring as a head chemist in 1993 after 25 years there.
He was a past member and former president of the Canal Fulton Lions Club. He enjoyed golfing, Ohio State football and the Cleveland Indians.
Surviving is his wife of 38 years, Maria (nee Cintron), daughters, Denise Rackley and Angela Gutierrez both of Villa Rica, Georgia, 1 grandson, his mother, Carmerina Gutierrez of Lorain, brothers, Rudy of Brunswick, Vincent Ruben of Breinigsville, PA, and Dennis of Oberlin, sisters, Sally Gonzalez of South Amherst, Martha Ambrosio of San Diego, CA, Carmerina Hernandez of St. Ann, Missouri, and Laura Hritsko of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by his father Dionisio Gutierrez in 1993, a sister, Delia in 1945 and a brother, Jorge in 1939.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where a prayer service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. with the Rev. Louis Kayatin, pastor of Church on the North Coast, officiating. Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
