Richard W. Klinar, 77, of Amherst, died Saturday, December 6, 2008 at Community Health Partners Hospital, Lorain, following a lengthy illness.
Born December 29, 1930 in Lorain, Richard graduated from St. Mary High School in 1949. He then served in the US Army during the Korean War as a military policeman with the 101st Airborne Division in Japan. In 1999 he moved to Amherst.
Richard served as the chief plumbing inspector for the City of Lorain for 30 years retiring in 1995. He had also worked as an inspector for Housing and Urban Development. Prior to this, he worked as a carpenter at Lorain Works US Steel and as a plumber in his father's business, Klinar and Sons Plumbing in Lorain.
He was a member of Ss. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, Lorain, the Ss. Cyril and Methodius Lodge K.S.K.J. No. 101, and the former Slovenian Club, Lorain, where he had served as president for many years. Richard served as a troop leader for many years, and enjoyed puzzles and watching television.
Surviving is his wife of 37 years, Carol (nee Horn); sons, Richard G. of Lorain, Gary A. of Las Vegas, and Michael R. of Amherst; daughters, Lynn M. Berry of Lorain, and Kathleen A. Klinar of Amherst; 6 grandchildren; a brother, Louis D. of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gabriel and Antonia (nee Novak) Klinar; brothers, John, Robert and Thomas.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where funeral services will be Wednesday at 9:30 am. Mass will follow at 10:00 am at Ss. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church,1709 E. 31st Street, Lorain. Rev. Fr. Paul Krajnik, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. Full military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post 20 combined with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 451.
