Jim Denley, who is serving his country in Iraq; Leslie Pall O'Keefe of Lorain; and Richard S. Pall of Vermilion. He is survived by his grandchildren: Jennifer Michelle Shepherd of Westerly, R.I., Kara and Leah Smarsh of Lorain, Bethany Denley of Chesapeake, Va., and Aubrey Pall of Vermilion. Dick graduated from Lorain High School in 1950. He joined the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War in 1950 and served until 1954. He was involved in a series of atomic bomb tests at the Pacific Proving Grounds in the Marshall Islands and was a member of the Sixth Weather Squadron, stationed in Alaska.
After leaving the service, he attended the Cooper School of Art in Cleveland, graduating in 1957. He then joined the Scripps Howard newspaper chain, working as a commercial artist, before taking a position at Nelson Stud Welding Co. in Lorain, also as a commercial artist. He was soon promoted to advertising manager. When Nelson became part of TRW, Dick was named director of world wide communication for the TRW Automotive Group, traveling all over the world as a company representative for 35 years. He won several awards for his promotional materials and videos.
After retirement Dick continued as a consultant with TRW and later rediscovered his love of art, beginning with sketching and moving on to painting in acrylics, focusing on an impressionistic style, inspired by the beauty of nature. He was a member of the Lorain Arts Council, who will honor him with an art show of his work at a later date to be announced, and was the featured artist at the North Cultural Arts Holiday Art Show in 2009. Dick was described as a "rare mix of a hard nose and an artist" during his professional career.
Dick enjoyed his annual trips to Florida, gambling, gardening, sports, and working on his daily crossword puzzles. He lived in Lorain all of his life and will be missed by his loving family.
