Richard P. Poszywak, 80, of Lorain, died Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at New Life Hospice Residential Center, Lorain, following a short illness.
Born March 17, 1928 in Lorain, he was a life long resident here.
Richard served in the US Army during the Korean War, having received the Korean Service Ribbon with 2 bronze service stars, Combat Infantry Badge, United Nations Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal.
He worked for Lorain Works US Steel for 40 years, retiring from the rolling mill in 1986. He was a member of the United Steel Workers Union Local 1104 and AARP. Richard enjoyed taking walks in the park during the summer and watching baseball.
Surviving is his wife of 53 years, Phyllis (nee Lamats); a daughter, Debbie Palos of Elyria; grandchildren, Domingo (Dana) Palos of North Carolina, Mark (Ann) Palos of Elyria and Melissa Palos of Elyria; and 3 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Anna (nee Moskal) Poszywak; brothers, Peter and John; sisters, Anna Shunka, Julia Topoloff, and Alice Krivell.
Visitation will be Friday from 10:00 am to 11:00 am in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain. The VFW Post 451 combined with the American Legion Post 30 will conduct full military honors.
