Robert Milford Adkins, age 88, of Elyria, died on Monday, May 24, 2010 at EMH Regional Medical Center, Elyria, following a lengthy illness.
He was born on February 22, 1924 in Stiltner, West Virginia, moving to this area in 1958.
He served in the Air Force during World War II where he earned the Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, Purple Heart Medal and the World War II Victory Ribbon.
He was employed as a truck driver for the Teamsters Union for more than 40 years, retiring in 1987.
Robert enjoyed watching racing, especially the Nascar races.
He was survived by her sons, Robert Dave Adkins, Richard Adkins and Steven Adkins, all of Lorain, 3 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 Juanita (nee Fry) parents, Elba and Laura Belle Adkins, and daughter, Sandra Adkins Shepherd
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 27, 2010 from 1-3 and 7-9 pm. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain where funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Howard Carroll, pastor of Mount Olive Freewill Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park.
