Robert "Bobby" Bender, age 66, of Lorain, passed away on Wednesday, December 5, 2007, at his residence, after a lengthy battle with Leukemia.
He was born on March 9, 1941 in Lorain, where he has resided his entire life. He attended Lorain High School.
Robert was employed at US Steel, in the transportation department, as a truck driver for 33 years before retiring in 2002. Prior to that, he was employed at Fruehauf Trailer Company.
He enjoyed "tinkering-around" with everything, even to the point of being known as "Mr. Fix-It." Bobby also enjoyed being with his family and friends. He was always known as a caring and compassionate person, putting everyone's interests before his, even during his illness.
Robert is survived by his wife of 39 years, Shirley (nee Castle), 3 sons; Philip, of Cleveland, Andy, of GA, and Paul, of Cleveland, 2 brothers; Daniel, of W. VA, and John, of Lakewood, and a sister, Shirley Bohland, of South Amherst.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Daniel and Pauline (nee Hromiak) Bender.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 9 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm, at the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where services will be held the following morning at 11:00 am. The Rev. Robert Wickens will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
