Compassionate Civic Volunteer
Robert "Bob" Tonkin Beuck, 86, of Amherst, died Sunday, May 28, 2006 at Kingston of Vermilion following a lengthy illness.
He was born July 7, 1919 in Cleveland; he lived in Elyria for 10 years before moving to Amherst Twp in 1960.
He served in the US Army during World War II as a Sergeant and was awarded the bronze star.
He graduated from Kent State University with a bachelors of science in business administration in 1947.
He retired 1984 from Moen Corporation in Elyria, where he worked as a cost accountant for 11 years. Prior to that, he worked Nelson Stud Welding in the accounting department, and Lorain Works US Steel.
He attended The Church on the North Coast. He was a member of the National Association of Accountants, the Data Processing Management Association, the United Way, Nelson Stud Credit Union, Amherst Township Citizens Committee and served as Amherst Township Trustee. He was also a member and past president and permanent secretary for the 37th Quartermaster Division for 50 years. He also was a member of the AARP having volunteered as a tax counselor, and the American Legion Post. He volunteered with Junior Achievement.
He enjoyed fishing, bowling, and golf.
Surviving is his son, T. William of Mentor; daughter, Barbara King of Amherst, 3 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Margaret (nee Kokorich) in 1991; brothers, Walter, Pete, Gilbert and Ralph; a sister, Dorothy Cherry.
Memorial services will be Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at The Church on the North Coast, 4125 Leavitt Rd., Lorain. Rev. Louis Kayatin, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Standing Rock Cemetery, 1361 N. Mantua St., Kent, Ohio, with full military honors. The Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain is handling the arrangements.
