Robert G. Elek, 84, of Lorain, died Monday, February 13, 2006 at Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center West following a short illness.
He was born November 17, 1921 in Elyria, coming to Lorain in 1954 where he has lived since.
Robert served in the US Army during World War II as a corporal in Company B 319th Infantry.
He worked as a heavy equipment operator at Ferroslag in Lorain for 22 years, retiring in 1982.
He enjoyed woodworking and crossword puzzles.
Surviving is his wife of 4 years, Dorothy; sons, Robert P. of Elyria, Thomas J. of Lorain, and Timothy B. of Gates Mills; daughter, Joyce Van Sickle of Lorain; step sons, James Maloney Jr. of Elyria, Joseph Maloney of LaGrange, William Maloney of Cypress, Texas, Henry Patrick Maloney of Elyria, step daughters, Christine Cagle of Elyria, Susan Simion of Houston, Texas, Barbara Stiles of Sheffield Lake, and Theresa Lanzi of Avon Lake, 30 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren; great great grandchildren, a sister, Pricilla Diedrick of Elyria.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 57 years, Winifred E. (nee Quick) in 2000, son, Bruce W. Elek in 1977, a daughter, Linda Tennant in 1995; brother's Paul in 2005, and Joe in 2004, Stephen in 2005, a sister, Agnes Dunlap.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. 6:00 p.m. with a family conducted funeral service at 5:30 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. A private family committal service will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp.
