Robert L. Howell, Jr, age 58, of Sheffield Village, died on Thursday, July 21, 2005, at EMH Regional Medical Center, Elyria, after fighting hard with a lengthy illness.
He was born on June 12, 1947 in Lorain, and has lived his entire life in Lorain County.
He was a 1965 graduate of Brookside High School. Robert was in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Era. He was employed as a carpenter in the Lorain and Cleveland area for 30 years.
Robert belonged to a the Local Carpenters Union, and was a life member of the Erie AMVETS, Post 55, Sheffield Lake, the VFW Post in Sheffield Lake, and the American Legion in Avon Lake.
He enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing poker and card games, billiards, and watching the Cleveland Browns and Indians.
Robert is survived by his wife, Sandra Sanicky-Howell, his daughter, Kerry Howell, of Lakewood, his step-son, Dan Sanicky, of Sheffield Village, a sister, Sarah H. Leatherwood, of Sheffield Village, many aunts and uncles, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by a son, David Howell, his parents, Robert Howell, Sr. and Wanda M. (nee Thompson) Huskey, and his step-father, Howard E. Huskey.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 24 from 1-5 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave. The family will also receive friends on Monday, from 11 a.m. until the time of services at noon, held at Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon, in the Freedom Chapel, where the American Legion Post #30 and Veterans of Foreign War's Post #451, both of Lorain, will conduct full military honors.
