Robert E. Jones, 78, of Lorain, passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at Mercy Regional Medical Center, Lorain following a sudden illness.
He was born on Jan. 13, 1933 in St. Clair, Pa., to the late Thomas E. and Nellie A. (nee Sweitzer) Jones.
He served as a corporal in the US Army with Company 3 504th Airborne Infantry Regiment during the Korean War.
Robert came to Lorain in 1954 and began work at Lorain Works US Steel. He retired from there in 1986 as an instrument repairman, after 32 years.
Robert was an avid fisherman.
Surviving is his wife of 54 years, Betty J. (nee Painter); a son, Craig of Santa Maria, Calif.; a granddaughter, Kyle Barnes of Jacksonville, Fla.; and brothers, Richard of Armagh, Pa., and William of Waynesboro, Pa.
Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Raymond; and sister, Shirley Gulledge.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, from 10:30 am until the time of funeral services at 11:30 am in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Sandy King, Chaplin Mercy Regional Medical Center, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp.
