Robert J. Karpinski, 64, of Lorain, died suddenly on Thursday, September 1, 2011 at his residence.
A life long resident of Lorain, Robert was born Oct. 23, 1946 to the late John and Helen (nee Dzoba) Karpinski. He graduated from Admiral King High School in 1964, and received an associate's degree from Lorain County Community College. He served in the US Army Reserves in Sandusky from 1965 to 1975.
Robert worked for over 25 years in the Lorain City Water Department, retiring in 2010 as a foreman. Prior to this, he worked as a foreman in both the Bop Shop and Coke Plant of Lorain Works US Steel for over 10 years.
He attended Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Lorain, and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter 20. He enjoyed coaching his son's baseball team, and golfing. He especially loved his grandchildren very much.
Surviving is his wife of 37 years, Sandra (nee Babics); a son, Bob of Lorain; a daughter, Kim (Chris)Haskins of Churchville, Va.; grandchildren, Maya, C.J., Gabriella, and Chloe; and a brother.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where funeral services will be Wednesday at 9:30 am followed by mass at 10:00 at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church,418 W. 15th St., Lorain. Rev. Robert Glepko, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. The Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter 20 will conduct military honors.
