Robert C. "Bob" Martin, 88, of Elyria, passed away on Monday, April 30, 2012 at his residence while under the care of Hospice of the Western Reserve following a short illness. Born April 13, 1924 in Lorain to the late Foster and Ida Belle (nee Rowley) Martin, he moved to Elyria this past January. He graduated from Lorain High School in 1942. Following high school, Bob served in the US Navy aboard the USS Bismarck Sea during World War II. He received the Asiatic Pacific and American Theater Campaign Medals, and 39 Points. In March, Bob was recognized by Hospice of the Western Reserve with an Honored Veteran pin for his bravery during the World War II. Bob worked for Lorain Works US Steel for 30 years, retiring in 1982 as a foreman in the CW Mill -electrical maintenance department. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War Post 451, Lorain, and enjoyed woodworking, building and flying model airplanes, bike riding and gardening. He especially loved fixing things. Surviving is his wife of 29 years, Ruby (nee Hall); sons, Rob (Nancy) Martin of Boston, Mass., Anthony (Shelby) DeCredico and Louie (Ernie Shank) DeCredico both of Lorain, Tom (Connie) Litz of Huron; Jeff (Donna) Litz of Lodi and Robert (Cheryl) Litz of Amherst; daughters, Wendy (Tom) Bailey of Bath, Ohio, Susan (Lonny) Horwedel of Oberlin, Jill Ann (Jimmy Dunfee) Martin and Loretta Rodriguez both of Lorain, and Elaine (Eddy) Meosky of Elyria; over 44 grandchildren and great grandchildren; a great-great granddaughter; and a great-great-great grandson; a brother, Don (Marilyn) Martin of Apopka, Fl; a sister, Gladys Resar of Avon; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Megan McGinnis; bothers, Eddy, Olen and Dick; and sisters, Frankie Brandon and Edna Stanek. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4:00 - 8:00 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain, where funeral services will be Friday at 11:00 am. Rev. Bill Dickey, grandson of Bob and pastor of New Beginning Church of God, Lorain, will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. The Veterans of Foreign War Post 451 combined with the American Legion Post #30 will conduct military honors.
