Robert J. Szymanel, 59, of Lorain, died Sunday, September 3, 2006 at Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center - West, Lorain, following a lengthy illness.
Born in Lorain December 7, 1946, he had lived in Chicago and San Francisco.
He graduated from Lorain High School in 1965, Lorain Community College in 1968, and Cleveland State University in 1974.
Robert was employed by H.K. Ferguson Co. of Cleveland as a Stress Analysis Engineer.
Robert was an avid roller skater, having won many championships through out his life. His greatest accomplishment was in 1994 when he received a gold medal at the Ohio State Meet and Great Lakes Regional and 5th place at the Nationals.
Surviving are his brothers, Jeff Szymanel of Mentor on the Lake, Edward Szymanel of Elyria; his companion, Randall Sprague of Lorain; and several nephews, aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley M. Szymanel and Sophie K. (nee Kurish) Szymanel, and brothers, John Szymanel, and Stanley Szymanel.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6 - 9 p.m. in The Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where Funeral services will be Friday at 9:30 a.m. followed by mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church 1305 W. Erie Ave, Lorain. Rev. Fr. Joseph West, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
