Rodney Lane "Bub" Butcher, age 75, of Elyria, passed away on Monday, August 15, 2016 at Mercy New Life Hospice, Lorain.
He was born on November 29, 1940 in Weston, West Virginia and has lived in this area for the past 24 years. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1961 until being honorably discharged in 1962.
Rodney worked as a master carpenter for both residential and commercial properties. To him it was not just work though, it was his passion, and will be fondly remembered as a "master handyman." He loved to build things, but was also a great cook and baker, especially his home-made bread and spaghetti sauce. He enjoyed gardening and canned a lot of his own produce.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Roxanna Wooten Butcher, his sons; Michael, Mark L., Timothy B., Rodney A., Rodney D., and Robert L. "Bobby" Butcher, many grandchildren and great grandchildren, and his sister, Pamela McKenzie and brother, Carl Butcher.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Terry L. Butcher, and a brother, Danny.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 20, from 10:00 am until the time of services at 1:00 pm, in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. The Rev. Chris LaLonde, Pastor of United Methodist Church, Elyria, will officiate. Military honors will also be conducted at this time. At a later date, Rodney will finally get to go home to West Virginia.
