Romana Amador

February 28, 1923 — September 22, 2018

Romana Amador (nee Sandoval), 95, formally of Lorain, passed away on Friday, September 21, 2018 in Roseville, CA after a brief illness.

She was born in México and moved to Texas as a child. She married Domingo Amador and they moved to Lorain, Ohio where they settled and raised their family and where she eventually became a U.S. Citizen.

During her early years in Lorain, she was employed by Joseph & Feiss and Dalton Industries. Romana enjoyed quilting, sewing, crocheting and family gatherings. While living in Lorain, she was a member of the Mexican American Citizens Club and was involved with the Lorain International Festival where she cooked for the Mexican booth and helped to decorate the floats for the Mexican community.

Romana and her family were once members of Sacred Heart Chapel in Lorain until they relocated to the east side of Lorain and became members of St. Anthony of Padua Church. While living in Lorain, Romana enjoyed being parts of various church groups including the Cursillo Movement, Our Lady of Guadalupe Society, the Marian Guild and various prayer groups. Then about a decade ago, Domingo and Romana relocated to California. Romana was also a breast cancer survivor.

She will be deeply missed by her daughters Lydia (John) Inchaurregui and Raquel Stein of Lincoln, CA; Paula (Joe) Perez of Lorain and her son, Gilbert (Mary) Amador of Lorain; 4 grandchildren, Ann Marie (Rafael) Sierra of Lincoln, CA; Capt. Adrianna Perez (USAF), St. Louis, MO, Angelina Amador of Chicago, IL and Monaca Amador of Lorain; 2 great grandchildren, John and Olivia Sierra of Lincoln, CA. She is also survived by sisters, Luciana (Nicolas) Perez and Ofelia (Aniceto) Martinez of Holland, MI and brother Isidrio (Francis) Sandoval of Niles, MI. She is also survived by many nephews and nieces.

Romana was preceded in death by her husband, Domingo Amador, daughter Otilia Amador, parents Mauricio and Mariana (née Alejandro) Sandoval, brothers Maximiliano, Emilio, Esteban and Jacinto Sandoval; and Florencio Soto

The family will receive friends on Monday, October 1, 2018 from 4 to 7 pm followed by a prayer service and rosary in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, Ohio. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 1339 East Erie Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Fr. Jerome Lajack, Pastor Emeritus of St. Wendelin Parish in Cleveland will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made to the Adoration Chapel c/o St. Anthony of Padua Church in Lorain.
